Dinner at Guy, Berlin, Germany
On our last night in Berlin, before we left for Prague, we ate at Guy with a group of about 10 friends. We knew going into it it wouldn't be great because a table for 10 never gets the best food or service. And it turned out even worse than we thought. Although the food wasn't terrible, it was grossly overpriced. And the service was pretty terrible. Our food arrived luke-warm most of the time and not only did the waiter not know what cheeses he had served, he did not even go find out and come back. When you are going to an expensive place, you are paying for the service just as much for the food, and this place didn't cut it on either end. I'm sure there are much better places to spend your money on fine dining in Berlin. This meal came to a whopping 110 euros per person.

Amuse Buche
Amuse buche is a bit of a misnomer for this dish--anyone of these components alone could have been the amuse, but taken together, they were just a first course we didn't order. That being said, the venison with the herb crust was tender and juicy, without the crust. The cucumber soup was good and frothy. The pigeon, however, was a but gamey.

Etoufee of Pigeon and Foie Gras with Apricots
This was actually quite tasty. The foie was of good quality and was complemented nicely by the sweetness and acidity of the apricots.

Scallops with 2 Kinds of Watermelon
This dish was lacking both depth and flavor. It could have used some salt.

Salmon Roulade
Same comment as above. And, although the mushrooms were tasty, they didn't really go with the rest of the dish.

Venison with Eggplant and Fava Bean Puree
This was actually fairly tasty, although the puree was a bit sticky. The venison was well cooked and not too gamey.

Lamb Chops with Mustard and Figs
It's rare that we like the main dishes better than the appetizers, but this was one of those cases. The lambchops were perfectly cooked and the grainy mustard held up well to the flavors of both lamb and grilled figs.

Cheese Plate
This was actually very large for a cheese course and most of the cheeses were tasty, with the exception of the goat, which was so unpalateable that something must have been off.
