Dinner at Home

BIG Salad with Warm Bacon Vinagrette
This salad contains mixed greens, avocado, tomato, yellow bell pepper, red onion, shredded rotisserie chicken, goat cheese and is dressed with a warm bacon balsamic vinagrette and topped with crispy parsnips that were fried in the leftover bacon grease. Yum. A refreshing end to a very hot day.

Lunch at Costco, San Francisco, CA

Hot Dog.

Breakfast at Home

Chicken Wings
Just a little something to tide us over until we got to Costco.

Dinner at Fringale, San Francisco, CA

Fringale is our favorite French bistro in San Francisco, and as far as flavor goes, it never fails. Service is generally very good as well. This time we had to remind our waiter that we had ordered wine, but he generously gave us each a glass on the house while we finished our appetizers and he went to fetch the bottle that we had ordered.

Chilled Tomato Soup $8
This soup was smooth, fresh and clean tasting. Very pure and resfreshing.

Calamari a la Plancha $10
Perfectly tender calamari with chorizo, olives, roasted red peppers and micro greens. So good.

Ribeye with Red Wine Butter $23
The steak just cooked just how I wanted it (medium rare, but on the rarer side) and the green beans were tender and nicely salted. Usually we eat the fried just for the homemade mayonnaise at Fringale, but sadly, they were out. They did graciously bring us the sauce below, which was a spicy mayo with capers and it was quite good. It's says something about the quality of a place when they will only bring you mayo if it is homemade...

Sauce for Fries

Shellfish Basquaise $18
This was actually a bit disappointing and Giao beleives the mussles made him sick.

Lunch from Kam's Chinese, San Francisco, CA

A less than inspiring catered in Chinese lunch at work...

Beef with Broccoli (standard), Foil Wrapped Chicken (the best thing on the plate), Fried Shrimp (flavorless and overcooked), Dumpling (far too doughy), Veggies and Tofu (ok).

Dinner at Home

We hadn't been grocery shopping in quite a while, so all we had were fixings for breakfast...

Low Carb Breakfast Burrito (for dinner)
Scrambled eggs with sausage, avocado, greek yogurt, cheese and hot sauce in a low carb tortilla.

Lunch from Schroeder's, San Francisco, CA

Schroeder's is a distinctly German place not too far from our office. This place is so German that you expect to be served by waiters in Leiderhosen. But instead, you are greeted by a large, old and somewhat terse German guy, who informs you that they are out of cheeseburgers. Since they are not out of hamburgers, it seems they've run out of cheese.

Slaw and Potato Salad (Served with the sausages)
Quite good, actually.

Sausages and Sourkraut $9
Sourkraut was ok and the sausages were good.

Shrimp Louie $12
Served with pickles and beets, this was certainly an interesting rendition of the salad. But the ingredients were fresh and thus, it was satisfying.

Flavorful meatballs with lots of cheese.

Salad with Artichokes (comes with meatballs)
Decent little side salad.

Dinner at Oola, San Francisco, CA

We were just about to start dinner when we got a call from our friend's David and L. We ended up at Oola, a place close to our house and close to our stomachs due to their unfailingly good baby back ribs.

Cream of Scallion Soup $8
A bit thin, but a nice, subtle flavor.

Day Boat Scallops Wrapped in Potato and Topped with Tomato $14
These were actually quite good. Although the potato was unnecessary, the scallops were well cooked and flavorful.

Baby Back Ribs $22
These are pure, fall-off-the-bone meat candy (to steal a phrase from someone else).

Lunch from Sellers Markets, San Francisco, CA

This was actually one of the better catered in lunches that we've had recently. Apparently this place uses local, organic ingredients, and it shows.

Carne Asada Salad
With roasted corn and guacamole, this was an interesting salad. The meat was not great though.

Chicken Cobb Salad
Although I would have wanted a blue cheese dressing, the ingredients (including lots of crispy bacon) were fresh and tasty.

Rotisserie Chicken
The breast pieces were a bit dry, but the garlic and rosemary flavor was great.

Quesodillas
These are made with low carb tortillas, mexican blend cheese, fresh avocado and hot sauce. The quesodilla is pan fried over medium high on both sides for about a minute each.

Lunch from Johnny Rocket's, San Francisco, CA

Another catered in lunch at work, this one not so bad.

Beanless Chili
Not very spicy, but pretty tasty.

Chili Cheese Dog
The hot dog itself was very salty, but in combination with everything else it was pretty good.

Chili Rubbed Baby Back Ribs
These seemed a little sweeter this time, but the only thing that I did differently was use lime juice instead of lemon.

Roasted Brocolli with Cheddar

Lunch from Mehfil Indian Cuisine, San Francisco, CA

We ordered from Mehfil, our favorite Indian takeout place, at work and it was good, but not nearly as good as usual.

Chicken Mahkni $10
They used white meat instead of dark, which makes this meal much drier than it should be.

Saag Paneer $8
Good, but not great this time.

Taco Salad Scramble
This is eggs scrambled with leftover veggies and meat from last night's taco salad, then topped with leftover guacamole, sour cream and hot sauce.

Chupaqueso Taco Salad

Brunch at Canteen, San Francisco, CA

Alexis took her mom to brunch for a belated birthday present. Canteen was an obvious choice for its homey feel and clean, interesting food.

Salmon Ceviche $10
The combination of pickles and salmon seemed a strange one--so strange I had to try it. It was surprisingly good. The cornichons added a nice crunch to the citrusy, delicate salmon.

Trumpet Mushroom and Gruyere Omelette $8
Light and airy eggs, and a great earthy mushroom filling.
