Dim Sum at Mayflower Seafood Restaurant in San Francisco, CA

Giao's family was in town and we always like to go to dim sum when they are. Dim sum is a great option for a big family with lots of different palates, since there are so many options. I think the meal came to about $15 per person.

Stuffed Eggplant
Not our favorite, but others seemed to like it.

Tripe
Giao loves it, I don't.

Beef Brisket
The tender, long-simmered beef and boiled turnips in this dish make is a simple comfort food for us. We always get this, even if we have to order it off the menu because it is not coming around in a cart.

Fried Shrimp
A bit too breaded.

Fried Noodles
Rather bland, but good when dipped in chili sauce.

Tripe
Not my favorite, but Giao likes it.

Chicken Feet
Giao thinks these are a particularly good version.

Shrimp Noodles
A bit bland, but not bad.

Fried Tofu
Simple and tasty.

Sticky Rice
Studded with savory meat bits, this dish is was very comforting.

Siu Mai
These little pork dumplings are always our favorite. This version has large chunks of both pork and shrimp.

Har Gow
These tender shrimp dumplings are also quite good.

Garlic Chicken Wings
Standard chicken wings with a garlic kick.

Yummy Yummy in San Francisco, CA

Our new neighborhood has lots of Vietnamese places, but Yummy, Yummy, aptly named, is one of the best.
Fried Spring Rolls $5
A solid rendition.

Crab with Scallions and Garlic
The crab was sweet and the sauce was savory and plentiful.

Spicy Beef Noodle Soup
The noodles in this soup are oddly like spaghetti, rather than the standard rice noodles. The broth was nicely full flavored.

BBQ Pork
For some reason, this is always my favorite Vietnamese dish. The char-grilled pork is always juicy and slightly charred in flavor and topped with fried garlic and sauteed scallions. This version was particularly good.

Fish Hot Pot
The sweet/sour broth held up well to the fish.

Ariake: Our Favorite Sushi Place in SF

Giao's family was in town and we went to lunch at our favorite sushi place in the city, Ariake. As always, it did not disappoint. I'm not sure how much everything was, because we didn't pay, but whatever it was, it was worth it.

Dragon Roll
Due to my current, pregnant state, I can't eat sushi. However, this dragon roll with shrimp tempura and cooked eel was very tasty.

Hamachi Kama
This tuna collar was tender and delicious, even though I could only eat a little bit due to the mercury in tuna.

Softshell Crab Roll and Mango Tuna Roll
I only had the softshell crab roll, as it was cooked and it was quite good.

Uni and Salmon
Fresh and tasty, according to Giao.

Seafood Salad
Again, I couldn't eat about it, and I was sad about that, as Ariake's makes the best seafood salad we've ever had.

Seaweed Salad
Yum. What more can I say.

Tuna Tataki
The lunch chef makes the cuts of tuna a bit thicker than we like, so I wasn't that sad that I couldn't eat it.

Oysters
Giao said they were fresh and good.

Live Scallop
Giao also approved.

Dinner at San Mateo Prime Rib, San Francisco, CA

After Giao's fantasy football draft, we headed to San Mateo Prime Rib. Unfortunately, our camera crapped out so we only got pictures of 1/2 the meal. Overall San Mateo Prime was OK, but I wouldn't eat there again on purpose. It doesn't even compare to House of Prime Rib. Depending on the size of the cut, the meal ranges from about $27 to $38 per person. This include salad, 2 sides and meat.

House Salad
I'm not sure how prime rib places make the combo of canned beets, iceberg lettuce and chopped hardboiled egg, dressed with thousand island work, but somehow, it does.

Crispy Fries
These were a sad disappointment and were not crispy at all.

Short Ribs and Garlic String Beans

We grilled up some of our Korean-style short ribs and also sauteed some string beans in garlic and seasoned with salt and pepper. This was a very quick and very nutritious meal.
