Patisserie Nemorin in Deshaies, Guadaloupe

Alexis was pretty excited to be on a French island for a couple of reasons. Firstly, because the French always have wonderful bakeries and she hasn't had a real pain au chocolate since the last time she was in France and secondly because she learned that she can still speak French even though she's a bit out of practice.

Pain au Chocolate $1.50 (1 Euro)
This was light, airy, not too sweet and everything a perfect pastry should be.

Apple Turnover $2.25 (1.5 Euro)
Giao loves apple desserts, and this was quite a nice little hand held pie.

Pizza at Big Banana in St. John's, Antigua

Before we came on the trip we had heard that the pizza at Big Banana rivaled New York's. While this wasn't true at all, it was very good pizza. It was certainly better than any pizza we have in San Francisco, and probably the Bay Area as a whole except for the Cheese Board.

16" Small Pie, Half Pepperoni, Half Sausage and Pepperoni $16
It was kinda pricey, but it was tasty, and it was all we had eaten since breakfast that day.

Snack at the Octagon Bar and Snackette, Charlestown, Nevis

On our way back to the boat from the beach, we needed a snack and we were looking for another patty. However, we found a little outdoor bar (full of locals) with some interesting looking food. It turned out to be a really tasty, and very cheap. Those whole me came to $20 East Caribbean Dollars, which I think is about $7 USD,

Johnny Cakes
Fried little dough balls. These were great for soaking up the soup.

Turtle Soup
This was the first time we'd had turtle, and in this preparation it was very tender. The skin was a little funky, however. This soup was heart, a little spicy and really good. We also loved the little dumplings floating in the soup.

Fried Fish with Hot Sauce
This was a decent, simply prepared, flavorful piece of fish.

Beef Patty at Alpha Deli, Charlestown, Nevis

Beef Patty $1.50 ($4 EC)

Giao had been feeling ill in the morning, and hadn’t eaten breakfast. By the time he got into Nevis he was feeling better. On our way to the Baths, a lava heated natural pool, we happened upon a little shop selling patties. In Jamaica we had eaten a lot of beef patties and we found that the beef patty at this shop was far better than those anywhere we had tried in Jamaica. The crust was crisp and light and the filling was mainly beef, rather than filling.
