Dinner at Home

Cream of Spinach Soup

Lemon Caper Sole with Green Salad
The sole is placed in a baking dish, sprinkled with lemon juice, salt, pepper and capers and baked in a 375 over for about 10 minutes. Simple and light.

BBQ in San Jose, CA

Our friends' baby was having her 1st birthday party, so we manned the grill for a few hours, resulting in some quite good cheeseburgers, if we do say so ourselves...

Late Night Snack at Home

Chicken Wings from Costco

Happy Hour Snack at MacArthur Park, San Francisco, CA

After work, pre-movie, we headed next door to MacArthur Park for a quick drink. We also found out that during happy hour, all appetizers are 1/2 price...

Popcorn Shrimp $5
The shrimp were tender and the sauce nice and spicy.

Fried Calamari and Artichokes $4
Giao proclaims this to be the best calamari in the city because the batter is so light it is almost not there, but in a good way. The sauce left something to be desired though.

Lunch from Gambino's, San Francisco, CA

Alexis ate a catered in lunch from work...meatballs and artichoke hearts from Gambino's.

Lunch at Kokkari, San Francisco, CA

Giao had a work-related lunch at Kokkari, a Greek place very close to our office...

Grilled Meatballs $6.75
Decent, not amazing.

Fried Smelts $6.50
These fried whole fish are delightful.

Assorted Dips (Tzaki, Hummous, Babaganouj) with Grilled Pita $8
All very yummy, and the pita is a chewy, bready variety.

Dinner at Home

Rosemary Garlic Lamb Chops
These lamb chops were purchased at Costco and were quite tender. We will certainly buy them again

In a food processor puree one head of peeled garlic cloves, and the leaves of 4 sprigs of fresh rosemary. Add 3 tb olive oil, 2 tb pepper and the juice of 1/2 lemon to this mixture. Coat the bone in lamb chops (7) in the resulting paste and cook in a wide, shallow pan over medium high heat for approx. 2 minutes on each side (4 sides total) for medium rare.

Lamb Chops served with Green Salad with Balsamic Vinagrette.

Lunch at House, San Francisco, CA

We are moving offices soon, so we decided to eat at House one last time before it is too far to walk to for lunch. House is a cute, if loud, Asian fusion bistro type place that always pleases but doesn't always wow. But, it is reasonably priced, so you don't always expect it to wow. They do have several specials every day though, even for lunch.

Sweet Asian Pickles (gratuit)
A nice, free starter.

Soft Shell Crab Tempura $8
The tempura was a but too doughy, but you really can't go wrong with a deep fried soft shell crab and a spicy-sweet-sour dipping sauce.

Flank Steak with Mushrooms $12
The steak was cooked well, and had a flavorful crust. The sauce was subtle, but full in flavor.

Side Salad Served with the Above in Lieu of Potatos

Sea Bass $12
The sides were a bit sweet, with the noodles were thick and homemade.

Short Ribs $9
Mmm. The short ribs were solid.

Dinner at Lahore Karahi, San Francisco, CA

An Indian coworker recommended that we try Lahore Karahi, a no frills Indian place in the Tenderloin. He recommended it for the vegetarian options, but we assumed the meat would be good too. He was right in that the vegetarian stuff was WAY better than the meat.

Butter Chicken $7
Too sweet and not salty enough.

Chilean Sea Bass Tikka Masala $9
The waiter suggested we order the tandoori fish instead, but for some reason we stuck to our guns. We should have listened to him. This was too sweet.

Sesame Naan $1.50
We ordered garlic naan but they gave us this. It was too bready and obviously, not garlicky enough.

Saag Paneer $6
Awesome. They make the paneer in house and it was perfect, not rubbery at all. This dish was by far the highlight of the meal.

Brunch at Foreign Cinema, San Francisco, CA

Against our better judgment, we met some friends for brunch at Foreign Cinema, a place with decent food and horrible, holier than thou, service. Giao claims that they hate Chinese people and by virtue of the fact that he looks Chinese, they are racist towards him. But Alexis is white and they aren't very nice to her either. Maybe we just are not "cool" enough. In any case, they have a nice outdoor patio, which was perfect for this sunny Sunday.

A Dozen Oysters $18
4 different kinds of oysters, most of them good, one of which was a little off in Giao's opinion.

Sardines with Roasted Bell Peppers, Fried Broccolini and Fresh Ricotta $10
Very tasty and fresh.

Beef Carrpaccio with Curry Sauce and Fried Parsnips $10
The parsnips were a nice touch and it was good, but not special.

Sesame Fried Quail with Morrocan Carrots $14
Good, but nothing special about this dish.

Two Poached Eggs with Grilled Duck Breast, Warm Salad Greens and Duck Cracklins $12
This was very tasty and apparently I was very hungry, as this picture was taken after I'd eaten about two thirds of the meal.

Lavendar Creme Brulee $7
A solid rendition, yet I didn't taste the lavendar.
