Dinner at Nihon, San Francisco, CA

More of a lounge than a restaraunt, this brand spanking new whiskey lounge in Potrero boasts a great whiskey menu (with a good selection of scotches). It was also the location of our office Christmas party. As we drank down our Maker's Manhattans and neat Springbanks, the kitchen brought out a dizzying array of sushi and other treats. In general the food was well prepared and fresh, with nice platings.

Kumamoto Oysters
Good, but the sauce did not add anything to the sweetness of the oysters.

Edamame
Nicely salted and half way between warm and cold. A nice starter.

Chicken Wings
These wings were amazing. They were super crunchy, yet tender, and perfectly flavored. The best wings I've ever had, I think.

Grilled Scallions
Surprising and fresh.

Tempura Root Vegetables with Dipping Sauce
Crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Good for what they were, but not my cup of tea.

Assorted Sashimi (above 3 pictures)
The fish was quite fresh, and that is really the only criteria for sashimi.

Grilled Rice Balls
Umm, rice...

Assorted Sushi (vegetarian and not)
It was all pretty good, and the addition of pickled veggies was nice.

Yellowtail Stuffed Grilled Mushrooms served 2 ways (above 2 pictures)
These were also amazing. An innovative combo that tasted great. Served with 2 different dipping sauces.

Grilled Chicken Skewers
Tender.

Grilled Lamb Skewers
These were surprisingly less gamey than most lamb and were also very tender. Yum.

Green Tea Cheesecake
Pretty good, although I think the strawberried had been frozen and thawed...
