Dinner from Farallon, San Francisco, CA

We decided to try a place we'd never been before, Farallon. It was a very strange experience, mostly because of the decor, which was described by Giao as "Disneyesque". It was totally overdone with an ocean theme--light fixtures shaped like jellyfish, railings cast like seaweed. The service was good though, and they had an interesting was of knowing which kind of water we each were drinking: different cup shapes. They passed the water test with flying colors.

Seafood Platter for Two $50
I thought this was a bit pricey, but it was good. King crab claws, lobster claws, oysters and huge prawns.

Intermezzo (gratuit)
Chilled Asparagus Soup with Olive Oil
This is a fairly played out dish, but it was a decent rendition.

Asparagus Soup with Lobster $11
This was a decent soup with big chunks of lobster. Interestingly, it was not super smooth, as soups in nice restaurants tend to be.

Dungeness Crab Salad with Braised Artichokes $17
Clean tasting and very fresh. Quite good.

Seared Diver Scallops with Truffles on Angelhair $17
There was some kind of foam surrounding this dish, but we've forgotten which kind. The scallops were cooked well, but the "anglehair" was more like rehydrated ramen.

Foie Gras with Apricot Chutney $17
An interesting and tasty preparation.

Trio of Cheeses $14
Morbier, Cana de Cabra and Cashel Blue. We both liked the Cana de Cabra the best, a tangy, smooth, goat's milk.
