Dinner at Nopa, San Francisco, CA

It was our good friend Kelly's birthday so we all went out to Nopa, a restaurant that we had never heard of before, but that was obviously very popular. We had a reservation for 9pm, and the didn't seat us until almost 10pm, which was totally unacceptable. Unfortunately, no matter how good the service is after that, it can't really bounce back. The whole point of having a reservation is that you don't have to wait. So, Nopa totally failed on that count. Once we were finally seated, the service was fine and the food came out quickly, which was good since we were SO hungry at that point.

Amuse Bouche of Radishes, Butter and Salt (gratuit)
This was just kind of weird. Neither bad, nor good.

Salmon Carpaccio $9
Simple and fresh.

Cauliflour Soup $7
This was truly transcendant (not a word we use lightly). The soup was incredibly smooth and silky and light and airy. And it was SUPER flavorful. Essense of cauliflour. Yum.

Lamb Riblets $8
Oddly, a bit on the sour side. But the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender.

Fried Smelts with Fennel $8
These were actually very good. Crisp on the outside and tender in the middle. Kokkari could learn a thing or two from Nopa about Smelt cooking. Although, at Kokkari you get double the smelts for the same price.

Rotisserie Chicken $17
The chicken was very moist and fairly flavorful. The salad had a weird, salty dressing.
