Dinner at Foreign Cinema, San Francisco, CA

Our good friend's parents were in town and we all went out to Foreign Cinema for a great meal. The generally snooty/holier-than-thou waitstaff were very pleasant, since this friend is a regular there and a friend of hers works there. Including food, drink, tax and tip the meal came to approx $60/person.

Salad with Dried Cherries and a Toast with Chicken Pate
The pate was quite good, although the salad was a bit sweet.

Broiled Brie with Pickles, Potatos and Tapenade
Nothing better than warm, melty cheese.

Tuna Tartare
A bit salty, but very good, overall.

Vegetable Soup
Delicate and hearty at the same time. Quite good.

Fried Seafood with Pomegranite Seeds and Balsamic Dipping Sauce
An interesting mix of ingredients and better than the standard fried calamari with garlic aioli.

Mussels in Green Curry
The curry was pleasantly spicy without being overpowering and the mussels were were small but flavorful and fresh.

Peppercorn Duck Breast with Brussel Sprouts, Hazelnuts and Dried Cherries on a Butternut Squash Puree
Giao found the puree to be too sweet, but Alexis liked it. The duck was tender, juicy and delicious. The hazelnuts added a nice texture contrast to the brussle sprouts.

Pear Poached in Red Wine on Cream
Although Alexis usually doesn't like fruity desserts, she had a bite of this and found it to be both subtle and complex at the same time. It was very good.

Chocolate Pot de Creme with Pistachio Brittle
A very good rendition, although a bit sweet.
