Dinner at Lark Creek Steak, San Francisco, CA

We tried to go to B Restaurant, a new place near our house, but sadly, they had closed up early for the night because they had no customers. They have a terrible location with no foot traffic, so it wasn't all that surprising, but sad nonetheless. It was 9:15 at that point and since San Fransisco is an early to bed sort of city, our eating options were limited. We decided to try Lark Creek Steak, the steak house in the (finally finished) San Francisco Westfield Center, which has been under construction for at least 5 years. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the steak, especially because this chi-chi restaurant is in a mall.

Homemade Biscuits with Chorzo Butter and Cranberry Compote (gratuit)
These flaky-crumbly biscuits were served warm and were quite delicious. Although the corizo butter was good, it would have been nice to have been served plain butter as well, as the whole thing was slightly overwhelming.

Crab and Cauliflour Soup $15
Probably the most expensive bowl of soup we've ever had, but there was a lot of crab in it. The flavors were very nice and the small bits of purple cauliflour were texturally and visually interesting. The only problem with this dish was that there should have been about twice as much liquid. The soup didn't even come close to covering the rest of the ingredients, which threw the proportions off. I'm not sure whether this was intentional or merely a mistake. The bready thing in the middle was also totally unnecessary.

Waygu Beef Carpaccio $17
Waygu is the American version of Kobe beef. This dish was bright and buttery at the same time and very, very good.

Brussel Sprouts $7
These were braised in beer and caraway seeds and were very good.

Creamed Spinach $7
Not that great. Alexis' is better becauase it is made with bacon.

9oz New York with Bearnaise $22
The steak was juicy and cooked perfectly. The bearnaise left something to be desired. Unclear whether the greens were supposed to be a salad or a garnish.

Dry Aged Rib Eye $43
Dry aged for 18 days, the concentrated flavor of this steak was amazing. The blue cheese butter was not as good as Alexis' and had a strange texture.
