Dinner at Farmer Brown's, San Francisco, CA
We decided to try Farmer Brown's tonight, a soul food place with a chic, hipster-esque vibe. Despite the place being full and it being a Friday night, we were seated right away, which was nice. We'd heard they had the best fried chicken in San Francisco, and that is accurate by our account, but that's about it. The rest of the food (save the dessert) was fairly bland, although not horrible. We'd go again, but only for the fried chicken and a drink.
Cornbread Mini-muffins with Maple Butter (gratuit)
The cornbread was OK, but we were taken off-guard by this alarmingly sweet butter. Since we don't generally like sweets all that much and don't expect them at the beginning of a meal, it was a bit strange to us.
Seafood Jumbalaya with Andouille Sausage $20
The sausage was good, and this was full of shrimp and catfish, but it was fairly bland. We added the hot sauce that was on the table, and then it was a bit better.
Fried Chicken with Collard Greens and Mac n' Cheese $16.50
This dish was the true stand out of the night. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, yet the crust was thin and super crispy. Yum. The greens were also delicious, with the right amount of bitterness. The mac was a bit lackluster and the cheese sauce was a bit grainy.

Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting $6
Alexis couldn't resist the siren call of carrot cake, despite her general attitude towards sweets and carbs. This was very good. The cake itself was barely sweet and the frosting was smooth. She could only eat about half of this giant slice before becoming way too full, but it was very satisfying.
