Japadog!

We had heard about Japadog from Anthony Bourdain's show, No Reservations. It sounded so weird it had to be good. Japadog is a glorified hot dog stand run by 3 very cute Japanese girls. There are several Japanese versions as well as standard hot dog cart fare.

Terimayo Dog $4.25
Served with teriyake sauce, mayo, nori and sesame seeds, this was a surprisingly delicious dog. The dog is partially sliced through in several places so that all the sauces get deep into every bite and then grilled. The bun is also placed on the grill and is hot and substantial.

Breakfast from a Truck on Penn's Campus, Philadelphia, PA

We were at the Penn campus and went on a search for the lunch truck where Giao used to eat quite frequently in college. 10 years later, not only did we find the place, the woman who cooks in the truck remembered Giao.

Sausage, Egg and Cheese on a Roll $2.50
Huge and cheap.

BBQ Steak $4
Cheap, and tasty, but the bread was a bit too soft.

Breakfast at the Currywurst Stand on the corner of Kurfurstendamm and Knesebeckstrasse, Berlin, Germany

On our last morning in Berlin, we thought we'd get up and go to a cafe for a nice, leisurely breakfast. However, the only thing we could find open in Charlottenburg at 8:30 in the morning on a Sunday was this sausage stand...

Bratwurst with Mustard $2
Cheap and tasty.

Breakfast at OneZero: The Urban Food, Berlin, Germany

Back in Berlin, we were starving, so we stopped at the first doner kebab place we saw.

Doner Kebab $3
The sauces were a bit too sweet for us this time, but it was still a satisfying meal.

Dinner at Pizza Express, Prague, Czech Republic

Chicken Gyro $3
As we'd had a rather large, very late lunch, we weren't that hungry for dinner, and thus, made another trip to the Pizza Express.

Afternoon Snack at Greek Taverna, Prague, Czech Republic

Two doors down from the Pizza Express, we found a gyro place that was cheaper and better...it wasn't open 24 hours though.

Chicken Gyro $2
This gyro was cheaper, had more meat in it and was slathered in hot sauce, a nice twist.

Mid-Morning Snack from Pizza Express, Prague, Czech Republic

And, another trip to the Pizza Express...

Falafel Gyro $2
Pretty decent falafel, lots of veggies.

Pork Euro $4
Double the price, but not double the taste. The pork was a bit dry.

Snack from Pizza Express, Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is also littered with gyro stands, mostly in the form of what seems to be the monopoly, Pizza Express. The pizza at Pizza Express looked horrid, but the chicken gyros weren't too bad, and as we were learning, some of the best food in Prague is the very cheap street food.

Chicken Gyro $3
Stuffed with chicken, tomatos, cabbage and sauce, a steal at $3.

Dinner from the EuroFood Stand on Weceslas Square, Prague, Czech Republic

The streets of Prague are lined with sausage stands that also serve burgers and fried cheese sandwiches. We were staying on Wenceslas Square, which seemed to have one of these stands on every block, for the length of the street.

Sausage $2
Big and tasty, slathered in mustard.

Mini-Sausages, Onion and Mustard $3
Yummy.

Lunch at Witty's, Berlin, Germany

We had heard that Witty's, across from KaDeWe, was some of the best currywurst in Berlin, and since we had to check out the gourmet floor at KaDeWe anyways, we figured we'd stop here for a bite. It was pretty tasty, but I don't think we really share the German's love of currwurst (sausage topped with curry powder and ketchup)...

Currywurst $3
Would have been better without the ketchup.

Fries with Homemade Mayo and Chili Sauce $4
The fries were thick and crunchy. The mayo was good. The chili sauce was too sweet. The Germans have a very odd habit of charging you for condiments.

Sausage with Mustard $2
The sausage was tasty and we found the ration of meat to bread rather comical.
