Artichoke Pizza at Arizmendi Bakery, San Francisco, CA

1/2 Bake, 1/2 Pizza $9
This artichoke pizza, with no red sauce, was very tasty. The sourdough crust was nice and crispy as well.

Very Tasty Pizza from Arizmendi Bakery, San Francisco, CA

I wasn't feeling well so Giao brought home some pizza for dinner. Arizmendi seems to be the San Francisco arm of the Cheese Board Collective in Berkeley. (We're not actually sure how they are related, but we are pretty sure they are.) They bake bread, sell cheese and make the best pizza we've had on the west coast. Somehow, while no other pizza place outside of NYC can seem to get the thin crust super crispy (and never soggy), the the Cheese Board and Arizmendi both deliver. They only make one type of pizza per day, and it is always delicious.

Tomato, Spinach and Cheese Pizza on Sourdough Crust $9
This half of a half-baked pizza was very good. We simply baked for another 8 minutes once we got it home.

Gianni's Pizzeria, Monterey, CA

We were in Monterey for the weekend and we were looking for decent places to eat. We read in several sources that Gianni's was "the best pizza in Monterey" and "like New York pizza". While it may very well have been the best pizza in Monterey, it was really not that good, and it was so far from New York pizza that I can only believe that whoever said that must not have ever been to New York.

Small Pepperoni $10
Thick soggy crust and greasy toppings.

Chicken Wings $7
Decent, but nothing special.

Jalapeno Poppers $7
Crispy and gooey, pretty good actually.

Large Meat Combo Pizza $18
Same as above. It almost required a fork to eat it.

Apizza Scholl's in Portland, OR

This place is known for selling pizza until they run out of dough, which happens rather early, around 8:30 PM.

Antipasti Platter $10
Solid.

1/2 Sausage, 1/2 Canadian Bacon Pizza $15
As good of a pizza as Giao's had on the west coast. The crust was thin and crispy and that's about all you can ask for.

All You Can Eat at Pizza Orgasmica

A new location of Pizza Orgasmica opened up in the Embarcadero Center and between 4 and 7 you can get all you can eat pizza for only $8. Although pizza on this coast is never great, it was not half bad either.

Pepperoni and Hawaiian
Needed to be hotter, but it hit the spot.

Underwhelmed at Oliveto, Oakland, CA

We kept hearing that Oliveto was such a gem of the East Bay. So, when we were looking at a house near College Avenue in Rockridge we decided to try it out. Granted, we ate lunch in the cafe downstairs (because that is what is open on the weekend), but we were not impressed. There wasn't a whole lot of choice (sandwiches and pizza were pretty much it) and the execution was not great either.

Green Garlic and Asparagus Pizza $10
This was ok, if a little bland.

Sausage and Roasted Cauliflower Pizza $10
This was one just plain soggy, although the flavors were nice.

Pizza at The Cheese Board, Berkeley, CA

Asparagus, Basil and Garlic Slice $3
This really is the best pizza in the Bay Area. This slice in particular was an incredible melange of flavors. The garlic was very strong, but not overwhelming.

Pizza at Magan's Bay Beach Bar and Restaurant, St. Thomas

Cheese Pizza $2.75
Not too bad of a deal, seeing as it is the only eatery at the beach and they could charge whatever they want. The pizza was not bad, if a little soggy.

Pizza at Big Banana in St. John's, Antigua

Before we came on the trip we had heard that the pizza at Big Banana rivaled New York's. While this wasn't true at all, it was very good pizza. It was certainly better than any pizza we have in San Francisco, and probably the Bay Area as a whole except for the Cheese Board.

16" Small Pie, Half Pepperoni, Half Sausage and Pepperoni $16
It was kinda pricey, but it was tasty, and it was all we had eaten since breakfast that day.

Pizza Bagels!

Alexis thinks the idea of a pizza bagel is disgusting, but Giao and K were requesting them, so she obliged. As it turned out, they were praised as the most delicious of all pizza bagels. We toasted the bagels lightly, then spooned on boiled down, leftover homemade tomato soup. We topped that with diced salami and "mexican blend" cheese from Costco. We then put it in the toaster oven until melty and crispy.

Pizza at Enzo's Italian Deli

Giao had to rush to work 'early' this morning, and his morning route takes him past Enzo's Italian Deli every morning. It's a little mostly outdoor place, with a friendly owner. He had always wondered how the pizza was there. He wasn't disappointed, but only because he has very low expectation for San Francisco pizza.

Slice of pizza $2
Though it was a generous size, and the sauce was tasty, the crust was too thick and cake-y.

Chicago-Style Pizza in Chicago: Over-rated?

We knew when we were planning our crazy one-day Chicago trip that we had to sample the famous Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Though we usually try to nose out the local hidden gems, rather than usual tourist traps, we decided that we had to make a homage to the where it all began, Pizzeria Uno.

As expected, there was about a half an hour wait for a table (this was around 2pm). However, you put in your pizza order when you add your name to the list. Since they are made to order in about 45 minutes, the wait for the table ends up being a wash. Not knowing the process, when we were put on the spot, we confusedly blurted out, 'Pizza, uhhh, pepperoni, umm, individual.' If we had to do it all over again, we probably would have tried the Numero Uno with it's heaping helpings of toppings.

We were seated inside in a corner by the waiter's station and ordered our much needed libations. (86 F and humid in October?) As we waited for the pizza to arrive, we surveyed the walls on which hung articles and awards detailing the history of this Chicago staple.

Individual Pepperoni Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza $6.75
We weren't fans of the crust at all, which was sort of crunchy and crumbly and teeth shatteringly hard. The sauce was excellent though--very bright clear in flavor. We ended up scraping out the toppings and eating them with a fork.

Calzone from Parkway Pizza, San Francisco

After Giao was dissappointed to find out they closed the Carl's Jr in the Embarcadero Center he headed to the little food alleyway alongside it and grabbed the last calzone from Parkway Pizza. The pizza is bad, but bad like most San Francisco pizza, so it's serviceable when you get that pizza urge, or find out the Carl's is closed.

Breakfast from Ditsch, Berlin Germany

One of the many varieties of food available in a train station in Berlin...

Sausage Pizza
Rather bready, but it satisfied our early morning craving for something savory. We'd had our stomachs set on a doner kebab, but the place by our hotel was not open this early in the morning, or rather, the meat on the spit had not yet had time to cook.

La Mia Pizza, New York, NY

Twice in one day! Gotta love a pizza place open at 3am. Yum... We rationalized that since we weren't going to get another good slice of pizza till we were next in NY, we weren't being TOO gluttonous.

Snack at The Cheeseboard Pizza Collective, Berkeley, CA

Every time we make the trek to Berkeley we have to go to the Cheeseboard Collective for lots of great cheese at very low prices. The offshoot next door is the Cheeseboard Pizza Collective which actually has really good pizza.

Feta, Tomato, Mozzerella and Parsley Pizza $2.25
Very crunchy crust and flavorful ingredients. The best pizza we've had outside of NYC for a while.

Breakfast at Costco, San Francisco, CA

We were feeling the effects of one too many drinks the previous night and succumbed to pizza. It did make us feel a bit better.

Polish Sausage $1.50
It didn't taste that good this morning, but perhaps that was because of the state we were in.

Pepperoni Pizza $1.50
Cheesy, greasy, carby goodness.
