-1/2 onion, chopped
-5 cloves garlic
-2 ts thai chili paste
-salt to taste

Dinner at Osha Thai, San Francisco, CA

Whole Fried Fish
We were expecting something a bit more savory and the sauce served with this fish was just too sweet.

Beef Wasabi Rolls
There was nothing particularly wrong with this dish, but it was nothing special. Basically, beef was wrapped around veggies.

Red Curry
This was tasty, although I always wish that dark meat were used instead of white, which tends to dry out.

Yummy Noodles at Osha Thai Noodle Cafe, San Francisco, CA
Tom Ka Chicken Noodle Soup $10
This soup had just the right tart/sweet balance, but it was just a bit too creamy. It would have benefited from less coconut milk and more chicken stock. However, it was delicious and very filling.
Shrimp Paste Fried Rice $9
This fried rice is not very greasy, but very moist. The flavors are complex and tasty.

Lunch at Pen Thai, Bothell, WA
Sizzling Panang Duck $14.95
We had really high hopes for this duck. It looked delicious. It smelled delicious. It arrived at the table sizzling audibly. However, in the end, the meat was a tad dry. This, it was a pretty tasty, coconut-y dish.
Crab Fried Rice Special $11
There wasn't a ton of crab in this rice, but it was delicious nonetheless. It was light and not greasy at all, and very flavorful.
Crispy Garlic Chicken $11.95
This may be the most tasty dish ever. It's super-crispy, super-garlickly, ever-so-slightly sweet and totally addictive.
Garlic Fish $13.95
This whole, fried fish was slathered in garlicky goodness that we later used the fried rice to sop up.

Dinner at Home

Lemon Cucumber and Avocado Salad
Dressed with balsamic vinegar and seasoned with salt, this was a tasty, lettuce-free salad.

Thai Seafood Curry
Alexis likes to experiment with different ingredients in curries. Today she added roasted squash in an effort to thicken the sauce. It worked well and tasted great.
-15 shrimp, peeled and deveined
-2 packages shirataki noodles
-1 can coconut milk
-1/2 can water
-1 ts thai red curry paste
-1 lemongrass stalk, bruised and cut into 3 large pieces
-1 tb fish sauce
-juice of 1 lime
-2 small squash (with hard rinds) halved with seeds removed
-1 handful fresh basil
-1 onion, thinly sliced
-salt to taste
Roast the squash in a covered baking dish (or cookie sheet covered with foil) on 400 until soft--about 45 minutes. Boil the shirataki noodles for a minute, drain and set aside. Scoop flesh and set aside. Sautee the onion in a bit of olive oil until beginning to soften. Add the coconut milk, water, curry paste, lemongrass, fish sauce and shirataki noodles. Simmer for a few minutes. Roughly chop the squash flesh and add to the pan. Simmer for several minutes. Add the shrimp and scallops, cover and simmer for a few minutes, until seafood is just done. Remove lemongrass pieces. Season with salt, lime juice and basil and serve.

-1 stalk lemongrass, white part only, bruised and minced
-5 cloves garlic, minced
-thumb sized piece of ginger, grated
-1 ts white pepper
-1 handful fresh basil, minced

-2 tb fish sauce
-salt to taste
Mix it all together with your hands and roll into 1 inch diameter balls. Set aside.
Soup:
-6 can chicken broth
-juice of 1 lime
-1 gobo root, peeled and cut into 2 inch lengths
-1 lemongrass stalk, bruised and cut into 2 inch lengths
-one inch piece of ginger, sliced into 1/8 inch rounds
-1 tb fish sauce
-1 batch meatballs (see above)
-6 celery stalks, diced
-2 packages kelp noodles, roughly chopped
-1 tb red chili paste

Garlic Shrimp
The only thing that would make these better is if they were already shelled, since a lot of the good garlic gets stuck on the shells when you remove them.

A quick weeknight curry that probably would have been better if I hadn't tried to use the leftover root vegetables.

-4 scallions, chopped
-1 handful fresh basil leaves
-1 can coconut milk

All of it was pretty good for catered in food.
